Integrating Gender Equality In Disaster Risk Reduction: Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction In The Context Of COVID-19 And the Climate Crisis

The Centre has proposed two events to the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) Asia as part of the Strategic Collaborative Fund Phase 2 (SCF2) programme, launched by SEI Asia, with support from the Swedish government (SIDA). SCF2 aims to foster regional cooperation and policy dialogue for sustainable development and environmental sustainability, through capacity building, knowledge sharing, and increased collaboration. To ensure the effectiveness and longterm viability of climate programmes and policies, gender mainstreaming must be a vital component of the adoption process.
Highlighting this, the Centre proposed a certificate course and a policy dialogue, aiming to raise awareness of gender-based climate change vulnerability. The proposed five-module certificate course on Integrating Gender Equality in Disaster Risk Reduction, especially in the context of the COVID-19 and climate crisis will aim to highlight the gendered impacts of those crises and suggest inclusive disaster risk reduction. The policy dialogue will serve as the culmination of the event and the epilogue of the course.
The centre proposed to organise a single day event, inviting policy-makers and stakeholders from India, the Philippines, and Indonesia to discuss the topic at hand. The project aims to encourage interdisciplinary study of disaster risk reduction, climate change, gender equality, and human rights among scholars and social workers, as well as to provide a forum for them to discuss their research, practical knowledge, and experience with national and international peer groups and professionals.
