Promoting Entrepreneurship Within Agricultural Systems And Value Chains: Developing Climate-Resilient Practices To Promote Inclusivity And Sustainability

The Centre proposed three events to the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) Asia as part of the call for concept notes on ‘climate-resilient practices to promote inclusive and sustainable agricultural systems and value chains’ in the Strategic Collaborative Fund 2 (SCF2) programme. For societies to cope with the impacts of climate change and to build more resilient livelihoods, it is essential that there exist sustainable food systems - a food system that delivers food security and nutrition for all in such a way that the economic, social, and environmental bases to generate food security and nutrition for future generations are not compromised. In the food system value chains, this can be attained through entrepreneurship.
Smallholders’ actions and entrepreneurial abilities shape and influence agri-food system resilience. Entrepreneurship, here, is essentially the ability to adapt and manoeuvre resources to attain best possible outcomes. The first event proposed is a workshop, which would acquaint the attendees with the issues which being faced with respect to agricultural systems and value chains. The second is a series of social webinars which would be conducted in collaboration with organizations which work to promote sustainable agricultural systems, work for reducing global emissions through food systems, or start-ups working in the field of agricultural innovations. The third event is a call for pitches for innovative solutions to develop inclusive and sustainable agricultural systems, the winner of which would be funded by a collaborating organization.
The events proposed by the Centre attempt to discuss and develop the proper knowledge and coordination of policies, programs and measures to form sustainable food systems which can optimize results and maximize the available resources while also contributing to community resilience building.
